The solar system for kids
What the presentation covers
Slide 1 Our Solar System
A space adventure! · A trip around the Sun — 8 planets, 1 star, and lots of space! · Blast off! · Mars · Neptune · Uranus · Saturn
Slide 2 What is the solar system?
Our very own neighborhood in space. · The Sun is a giant star at the center — it gives us light and heat. · 8 planets travel around the Sun in big circles called orbits. · Everything is held together by gravity, like an invisible hug.
Slide 3 Meet the Sun
Our closest star ★ · A real star! · The Sun is a star — a giant ball of super-hot gas. · 5,500°C · That's how hot its surface is — 60 times hotter than an oven! · 1 MILLION · The Sun is so big that a million Earths could fit inside. · Our sunny helper
Slide 4 The rocky planets
Mercury · The smallest and fastest, zooming closest to the Sun. · Venus · The hottest planet, wrapped in thick clouds. · Earth · Our home! The only planet with oceans and life. · Mars · The red planet, with the tallest volcano in the solar system.
Slide 5 The giant planets
Outer space crew · The biggest 1 · Jupiter · Home of the Great Red Spot, a giant storm bigger than worlds! · Ring star 2 · Saturn · Famous for beautiful rings made of ice and rock. · Sideways! 3
Slide 6 Our home: Earth
Our home! · 3rd · Earth is the third planet from the Sun — just the right distance for life · About 70% of Earth is covered in water · 24h · Earth spins once every 24 hours — that's why we have day and night · One trip around the Sun takes one whole year — Earth's birthday trip!
Slide 7 Our Moon and friends
THE MOON · PHOBOS & DEIMOS · JUPITER'S CREW · TITAN · ALL SHAPES & SIZES · Earth has 1 Moon — astronauts visited it in 1969! · Mars has 2 tiny moons; Jupiter has at least 95! · Saturn has 274 moons — the most of any planet! Its moon Titan has lakes of liquid gas.
Slide 8 Planet size race
Who is the biggest? · SUN · JUPITER11× wider than Earth · SATURNcould float in a giant bathtub! · NEPTUNE · URANUS · EARTH · MARS
Slide 9 Amazing space facts
Wow! · A day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus! · It rains diamonds on Neptune and Uranus — scientists think so! · Space is completely silent — no air for sound to travel · Neptune is more than 30 times farther from the Sun than Earth — noon there would look like twilight!
Slide 10 Keep exploring!
You live on an amazing planet in an amazing solar system · Look up at the night sky — you can spot planets with just your eyes! · Keep asking questions — that's how astronauts and scientists start · Thank you! Any questions?
